Live Open toolHonest answers about PDF tools
Do you upload my PDFs?
No. Your selected files are read and processed in your browser. We do not transmit their contents to any server. The page still requests our HTML, styles, fonts and the tool libraries needed to run the tools.
What about encrypted PDFs?
The current version does not support password-protected PDFs. They are rejected with a clear reason. If you have the password, please unlock the file in a desktop tool first.
How good is compression?
It depends on the document. Images dominate most "heavy" PDFs, so reducing image resolution and JPEG quality produces the largest savings. "Safe Optimization" preserves selectable text and form fields where possible. "Strong Compression" re-renders pages, which may reduce sharpness for some scanned documents and may affect embedded text, links and accessibility.
What about scanned or image-based PDFs?
Compressed text-layer PDFs work best. For scanned PDFs, use Compress PDF's Strong Compression mode. To pull text out of a scan, convert it with PDF to JPG and run the images through Text Recognition.
